POSITION OVERVIEW
The Safety Manager will design, implement, and oversee BravoZulu’s Safety Program. This includes ensuring compliance with Canadian labour standards, deployed theatre requirements, and client contracts. The Safety Manager will conduct risk assessments, inspections, and training, and will lead incident investigations. This role provides direct support to deployed teams and ensures BravoZulu’s duty of care obligations are consistently met.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or . - 3+ years’ experience in safety management, ideally in construction, defence, logistics, or international operations.
Strong knowledge of Canadian OHS regulations, WHMIS, TDG.
Proven experience developing and implementing safety programs.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Eligible for Government of Canada Secret Security Clearance.
Desirable:
CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional), CSP, or NEBOSH certification.
Experience supporting defence, NATO, or expeditionary operations.
Familiarity with ISO standards.
Experience delivering HEAT, first aid, or safety training.
Bilingualism (English/French).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Policy & Program Development
Develop and maintain OHS policies and safety management systems aligned with Canadian law and DND/NATO requirements.
Establish and update Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and site-specific safety plans.
Compliance & Standards
Ensure compliance with the Canada Labour Code, provincial OHS Acts, WHMIS, TDG, and client-specific safety requirements.
Monitor alignment with DND/CAF, NATO, and ISO safety standards.
Maintain audit-ready documentation for inspections, tenders, and client reviews.
Training & Awareness
Deliver safety orientation, WHMIS, first aid, fire safety, and emergency response training.
Ensure deployed staff receive pre-deployment HEAT (Hostile Environment Awareness Training) and mission-specific safety briefings.
Inspections & Risk Management
Conduct regular workplace inspections in Canada and deployed operations.
Lead incident investigations and develop corrective actions.
Maintain risk register and monitor leading/lagging safety indicators.
Reporting & Coordination
Report safety metrics, incidents, and trends to leadership and clients.
Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and external agencies on safety requirements.
Promote a safety-first culture throughout BravoZulu operations.
